Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! 😊 This Psalm is a song of praise. It is one that we may feel a bit uncomfortable singing to God. It may sound like we are being proud or at the least not very humble. But we can delight in the fact that God has made us. Other Psalms tell us that we were knit together in our mother’s womb. Even in Genesis, after God was done with His Creation, He dubbed it “very good.” That includes us, my friends. 😊

It is hard to see ourselves as fearfully and wonderfully made, but we do need to try to see ourselves as God sees us. I am in the middle of researching Scripture for a devotional based on my recovery journey. At the beginning of that journey I would have told you that there was no way I could say these words and mean them.

I have said and done things in my past that were not anywhere close to appropriate. And, while not an excuse, that was the result of things that happened to me as a child. So I had recovery from both my childhood experiences and my own behavior. It was not an easy journey.

I had a wonderful Christian counselor who basically took me apart and then put me back together again. He helped me, with Scripture and great therapy, to begin to see myself differently.

While not in the perfect sense, I can see myself more as God sees me now. I still have my moments. While researching Scripture for this new book, I had some moments where I needed to step back. Some of this rubbed up against memories and experiences that were difficult. I thank God that He has allowed me to process and maintain a level of emotional health that would not be possible with Him and His Presence in my life.

When I see Scriptures like this one, I can look at it and praise God that I, like every creature, am fearfully and wonderfully made. God is our Creator and, as some have said, “He don’t make no junk.” God values each and every one of us as His children. He created us to be and do and fulfill His purpose for us in our lives. He has given us gifts to do so. When we start to look at ourselves and others from God’s perspective, we can much more easily say, “I/You/We are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Praying for all of us to live into the beauty that we hold as children of God – the God who created and formed us in our mother’s womb long before the creation of the universe. 😊

Blessings and Love, 😊 Ceri
