Happy Wednesday, Everyone. 😊 Saturday, our nation celebrated 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Our freedom was not sealed on that day, but years later, when the fighting finally stopped. Our Constitution was not finalized until 1787. And the Bill of Rights, which secures many of the freedoms we hold dear came after that.

We value and celebrate the freedoms we have in our nation. They are the bedrock of who we are as a democracy. Much blood has been spilled literally and figuratively to make sure that every person in the United States has full access to those freedoms.

But there is a greater Freedom that we celebrate as Christians. And that Freedom came at a much higher price. God sent His own Son, Jesus, to take on the sins of the entire world, past, present, and future. He then died on the Cross in our place. We had been separated from God by sin since Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden.

God was always present with His people, but there was a need for sacrifices to atone for their sins. And those sacrifices were not one and done. They needed to be continual. When Jesus died for our sins, that was a one and done. He conquered death and sin and the devil and bought for us the Freedom we could not purchase for ourselves.

Over the years, many people have fought and died for our country to protect and defend the freedoms we treasure. Unlike the sacrifice of Jesus, we need to constantly be on guard so that our national freedoms are protected.

Praise Jesus that when we say we have Freedom in Christ, we don’t have to fight for it. We only need to believe. That doesn’t mean that our lives will be easy or that there won’t be people who want to keep us from worshiping our Savior. But once we believe, we live into the Freedom that means an intimate relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

I truly value the freedoms we have in this country. However, for me, the Freedom that I have because of Jesus’ death is a treasure beyond compare. You see, even if the American freedoms disappear for some reason, I still have the Freedom of Jesus in my heart and soul – and that lasts for an eternity.
