Out of Darkness Into Light

Happy Wednesday, Everyone. 😊 Have you ever had a power outage in the middle of the night, but still needed to find a way to get around your house? Maybe you needed to use the bathroom or someone was calling you from another room. It’s hard to navigate in the dark, even if we know the layout. We run the risk of stubbing a toe or running into something that could result in a bruise to a knee, foot, arm, or some other part of our anatomy. A flashlight helps, but it’s not the same as having a light to light the darkness.Ā

Ā

This is physical darkness. And we have all experienced it or something like it in our lives. But at the time this prophesy was written by the prophet Isaiah, Israel was living in the darkness of sin and exile. They had stopped following God and His commands, and they were dealing with the consequences. It was not a happy time for the Israelites.

Ā

So this prophecy brought hope to them. In the future, they would be released from exile and allowed to return to their homes. In the distant future, this prophecy would be fulfilled in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Ā

The Israelites were not the only ones who walked in darkness and needed the Light of Jesus to brighten their lives. We, too, walk in the darkness of sin. We experience the separation from God that sin brings into our lives.

Ā

But God has brought to us a Savior. His name is Jesus. He is the Light in the darkness of sin. He is the Light that shines on us and releases us from the night. We have all dwelt in the land of deep darkness. We have all lived in the night of sin. But, when we embraced the Presence of Jesus in our hearts … when Faith came alive in us through the working of the Holy Spirit, the Light shone in each and every one of us.Ā

Ā

Jesus continues to work in the darkness of our lives and the lives of others. He continues to shine His Light into our lives so that we can be reconciled with God and do the good works He has prepared for us to do.

Ā

How has Jesus shone in your life? How have you been a light-bearer, bringing the Love of Jesus to those who are still living in darkness?

Ā

You know, even those of us who live in the Light of Jesus still sin. We still need to be rescued from the temptations that the darkness holds out to us. We need the Light of the Savior each and every moment of each and every day of our lives.Ā

Ā

May God grant us His Love and His Light and we continue our Advent journey to the Manger, where the Light of the world was born.

Ā

Blessings, 😊 Ceri
